November 2012

South x Southeast would like to wish everyone a Happy Holiday. No matter your spiritual affiliation, or whether you ascribe to one, this season holds meaning for us all. The photographers in our first Holiday Contest feature share with us some of their insights of the season through their photography. I want to thank each and every one of you who entered our contest, and a special thank you to our juror, Kevin Miller.

Collette, Christmas, 1989, by Kevin MIller

Artist’s Statement

There is a simple snapshot image of my young daughter taken back in 1988 when she was not yet two years old. I had been a commercial and fine art photographer, by that stage, for quite a few years. When our first child came along I recorded every marvelous moment of all our lives together in the family. It was a very happy time. There seemed to be a glow and a light surrounding everything. Perfection and that degree of happiness can be fleeting. I look at this image now with happiness and pleasure, but also with a longing that is hard to put into words.
